Patient Benefits

What a Muscle-Sparing Approach Could Mean for Recovery

Get Moving Sooner

Preserving the quadriceps may help you get back on your feet sooner after surgery.

Less Postoperative Pain

Reduced tissue disruption may help lessen pain during the early recovery period.

Less Numbness & Irritation

Lateral incision placement may reduce disruption to nerves along the front of the knee.

Discreet Incision Placement

Positions the incision along the outside of the knee for a more discreet cosmetic appearance.

What to Expect

Recovery is different for every patient, but understanding the general stages can help you feel more prepared. Here’s what may happen before surgery and as you begin to move, heal, and return to daily life.

  1. Before Surgery

Meet with your surgeon, complete any recommended testing, review medications, and prepare your home for recovery.

  2. Day of Surgery

Your procedure is performed, and many patients begin walking within hours under the guidance of their care team.

  3. Early Recovery: Days 1-7

Begin physical therapy, manage discomfort, and gradually increase your range of motion as your recovery progresses.

  4. Rebuilding Strength: Weeks 2-6

Continue therapy and everyday movement as strength and confidence improve. Some patients with sedentary jobs may return to work during this stage.

  5. Returning to Daily Life: Months 3+

Keep progressing toward everyday activities and higher-demand tasks. More physical work and activity may require additional recovery time.
